Vincy's Raised Dough KnotsLillian Pisani I got this recipe from my mother-in-law. It's been in the family for generations. These are good cookies for dunking!
Ingredient | | Yeast | | Shortening | | Eggs | | Sugar | | Salt | | Flour | | Butter or Margarine | | Walnuts |
| | Quantity | | 1 | cake (or 1 dry packet) | | 1/4 | cup | | 6 | beaten | | 1/2 | cup | | 1 | tsp. | | 5 | cups | | 1/2 | cup, melted | | 1 | cup, chopped |
|
Instructions | Dissolve yeast in water. Add shortening, eggs, sugar and salt. Add flour gradually until you can work with the dough--(approx. 5 cups). Place in a bowl and cover until dough doubles. Punch down. Raise 15 more minutes. Cut dough in 1/2" pieces, roll each piece and tie in a single knot. Place knots on cookie sheet and raise again for one hour. Bake 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Brush with melted butter and nuts. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top or frost with light confectionery sugar frosting. |
