Ceci Chiata - Mardi Gras WreathJulia Greco Pronounced (Chick-a-la-chod). Nonno always served this as dessert after a special, large meal on the day before Lent (Fat Tuesday). A special big dinner on this day marked the last meal before the Lenten season began. Very good.\r\n

Instructions | Combine all ingredients, except honey. Knead dough and roll into a six-inch rope. Cut into small pieces. Roll pieces round in the shape of a small marble. Deep fry these pieces in Canola oil until brown. (Oil should be very hot.) The dough pieces will come to the top when done. Remove with slotted spoon and drain. In a bowl, mix the fried dough pieces with whole almonds. Cook honey in a large pan. When honey is hot and stringy, add the mixture of fried dough and almonds. Mix until they are well coated with the honey. Spoon onto a large round serving dish (it will be sticky) and shape into a wreath. Refrigerate. \r \r Option: Honey balls can be shaped into a beehive or a mound instead of a wreath. Sprinkle top with colored sprinkles.\r |
